"This is a feature proposal. Reframe it as a platform capability. What primitives does this create that we'll use for the next 5 features?"
"Where's the demo? I don't want to review a doc, I want to see it work. Build a prototype this week and let's review that instead."
"You've planned 3 months of work. What ships in week 1? I want users touching this in 7 days, even if it's rough."
"The mobile experience is clearly an afterthought. Flip it — design for mobile first, then figure out what the desktop version gets for free."
"This requires eng from 3 teams. That's a coordination tax that will kill velocity. How do you scope v1 to a single team?"
"I love the ambition. Now cut it in half and ship it twice as fast."
"What are the metrics? If we ship this and it works, what number moves? If you can't answer that, we're not ready to build it."
"Every new microservice is a pager rotation. Are you ready for that? Do you have the on-call capacity, or should this live in the monolith until it proves it needs its own service?"
Saying "we're building this as a platform" is easy. Proving it means showing: What's the API contract? Could an external developer use this? What would the docs look like? Push for concrete API surface definitions.
If "v1" takes 6 weeks, it's not v1 — it's v1 of a 6-week sprint. Real v1s ship in days or a week and validate one core assumption. Everything else is v2+.
"We'll do mobile after the web version is stable" is the wrong order. Start mobile, ship mobile, then derive the web version. If you can't do it on mobile first, reconsider whether the UX is right.
Proposals without pre-defined success metrics will never be evaluated honestly. Define: "We'll consider this a success if [metric] moves from [X] to [Y] within [Z] days." No handwavy engagement metrics.
