Statistical Pedagogy Framework

Turn a technical statistical paper/method into an effective lesson, using evidence-based cognitive-science principles. This file is a router — start at the Paper-Type Dial, then open the reference/ file for each phase.

When to use

Designing lectures, handouts, flipped-classroom or journal-club materials; introducing a new technique/method at any level; or processing a [teach-paper] handoff block. (STAT 579 / 440 materials, research seminars.)

Workflow (open the reference for each step)

1. Calibrate first → reference/paper-type-dial.md (START HERE: classify the paper T/A/M/H, set the section-emphasis matrix, decide whether a Proof-Strategy Walkthrough is needed).
2. Apply the cognitive principles → reference/cognitive-principles.md (dual coding, worked-example effect, progressive complexity/scaffolding, retrieval practice, elaboration, transfer).
3. Fill the lesson template → reference/section-template.md (the 8-section structure: hook → numerical walkthrough → formalization (+ proof walkthrough) → contrasts → implementation → application → practice → broader framework).
4. Run the workflow / parse a handoff → reference/workflow-and-handoff.md (prep→develop→deliver→iterate; [teach-paper] YAML field mapping).
5. Gate before delivery → reference/checklists-and-pitfalls.md (lesson-design checklist, common pitfalls, deliverables, integration, getting-started).
6. House conventions for math-heavy lessons → reference/operational-conventions.md (fixed-inputs reproducibility, dual Mermaid/TikZ, guidance fading, LENGTH×DEPTH dials).

The teaching commands in this plugin (/teaching:lecture, :exam, :quiz, :slides, …) and the vault prompt teaching--math-tutorial-generators (the operational instantiation).
