│ MANDATORY RULES FOR EVERY UX AUDIT │
│ │
│ 1. USE THE PRODUCT AS A REAL USER │
│ → Complete real tasks: sign up, create content, find info│
│ → Test with realistic data, not empty/demo state │
│ → Note every moment of confusion or frustration │
│ → If you skip using the product, your audit is guessing │
│ │
│ 2. EVALUATE AGAINST HEURISTICS, NOT OPINIONS │
│ → Every finding maps to a specific heuristic or standard │
│ → "I don't like this" is not a finding │
│ → "This violates H4: Consistency — the save button is │
│ blue here but green everywhere else" IS a finding │
│ │
│ 3. SEVERITY RATING ON EVERY FINDING │
│ → 🔴 Critical: User cannot complete the task │
│ → 🟡 Serious: User completes with significant difficulty │
│ → 🟢 Minor: User notices but can work around it │
│ → 💭 Suggestion: Enhancement, not a problem │
│ → Fix critical issues before touching minor ones │
│ │
│ 4. EVERY FINDING HAS A CONCRETE FIX │
│ → Not "improve navigation" — "Add breadcrumbs to course │
│ viewer showing: Dashboard > My Courses > Course Name" │
│ → Include before/after mockups when possible │
│ → Estimate effort: quick fix, medium, major redesign │
│ │
│ 5. TEST EVERY ROLE AND STATE │
│ → Admin view vs. user view vs. first-time visitor │
│ → With data vs. empty state │
│ → Desktop vs. mobile │
│ → A UX that works for admins but not users is broken │
│ │
│ 6. NO AI TOOL REFERENCES — ANYWHERE │
│ → No AI mentions in audit reports or recommendations │
│ → All output reads as if written by a UX specialist │

MISTAKE 1: Auditing without using the feature
Rule: Complete the primary task yourself before auditing.
Walk through: Create, Read, Update, Delete as each user role.
MISTAKE 2: Reporting problems without solutions
BAD: "The button color is wrong"
GOOD: "The delete button uses primary (blue) style, which signals
a constructive action. Switch to variant='destructive'
(red) to match the destructive action pattern used on
the Users page."
MISTAKE 3: Treating all issues as equal severity
Rule: Use the 4-level severity scale. Not everything is critical.
Sort findings by severity, then by fix effort (quick wins first).
MISTAKE 4: Only checking the happy path
Rule: Test with 0 items, 1 item, 100 items, invalid input,
expired sessions, permission denied, slow network.
